PHILIP ODDO
Propose the Client
Castle Capuano
An important part of being an architect is knowing how to talk to clients and understand their needs. Along with this if their needs are unrealistic you must know how to compromise with them so that both the zoning board/town and client are satisfied. That being said, you also want to know how to influence a clients thinking into being your own by making your ideas sound like theirs. Overall, this project reflects that as we were tasked to interview a potential client and worked with them along the way into designing something that fit their needs, the project requirements, and all the codes involved.
Site Visit
368 Melville Rd
Location: Farmingdale, New York, USA
This site was on a corner lot and thus I wanted to visit it in order to understand the dynamics of not only the site but the surrounding neighborhood. By visiting this site, it allowed for me to better understand not only the constraints placed by the towns zoning codes, but also how this site could affect the dynamics of the surrounding neighborhood and road.

An important part of this project for me was to keep as much of the nature as possible upon construction and make it dynamic with the site design. Specifically, I didn't want there to be new trees planted or any nature/shrubbery cutdown in as much of the site as possible. Along with this, the surrounding foliage worked to my favor in my idea of this design being a castle as they acted as a metaphorical wall to protect from people looking in or unwanted visitors entering.
